Her was face pressed on the window with tears streaming down her face as she watched her mom drive away. She knew her family would never be the same again. How could it be? Her parents were divorcing and she now found herself and her sister being raised by their dad. She had already faced so much pain and trauma at the tender age of fourteen. She saw and went through life experiences that no one should have to go through, but even at her young age she knew where her hope was anchored.

Her hope wasn’t anchored in the idea of a perfect family with parents who didn’t fight, nor was it found in the desire to have a mom who wasn’t verbally abusive.

No, her hope was in Jesus Christ. And it was that hope that kept her alive.

This girl is me. This is a small glimpse into my story. It’s so easy to look at our circumstances and think where is the hope in this? Just turn on the TV for a few minutes, death, disease, and destruction can be found on every corner of the globe. If we keep our focus horizontal on the world, on our circumstances it will look hopeless but if we keep our eyes vertical we can be filled with hope.

Our hope is found in someone greater than us. It is only found in Christ. He is the only constant in our lives.

Do you want to know what is unchanging?

His love.

His goodness.

His Word.

Our hope isn’t found in our son’s good grades or his good behavior. Our hope is not found in good health. Our hope is not found in a job or money.

Only him.
