We recently shared some of our favorite classic movies on our Facebook page and many of you were interested in hearing about more classic movies to share with your boys! So we asked our writers to tell us about the classic movies they and their boys love…
Megan: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Amber: Anne of Green Gables {yes, even for boys} and the Shirley Temple movies!
LaToya: The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking – watched it with my boys recently and they loved it! Also Pete’s Dragon, Charlie Brown anything, Sesame Street’s Follow That Bird, The Care Bears Movie, Robin Hood (with Errol Flynn), Swiss Family Robinson, Flight of the Navigator, and The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones!
Kelli: The Journey of Natty Gann. We’ve been doing Family Movie Nights every week and so far that’s been their favorite. They also really liked Savannah Smiles and The Sound of Music. We’re going to do Swiss Family Robinson next, and Pollyanna is in the lineup.
Heather: The Apple Dumpling Gang is fun & sweet!
Jenny: The NeverEnding Story was good!
Melissa: Swiss Family Robinson was definitely a favorite when I was small.
Brooke: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Happiest Millionaire, and The Princess Bride!
Erin: Newsies is at the very top of our list! We are also big fans of Mary Poppins and the good old original Star Wars!

We love James and The Giant Peach, Sound of Music, Any OLD Disney, I have to introduce mine to The Music Man (it is a part of my famioy background),
The Sound of Music is a favorite of my 9yo. As a family, we like comedies. We love watching Elf at Xmas time. And another funny movie which is clean, has a great message (may be a little violent for some with the wrestling) is Nacho Libre. We love that movie. It’s become a classic in our house.
The Journey of Natty Gann was the first movie my husband ever took me to, way back in high school.
Not sure these are “classics” but our older crew enjoyed Radio, October Sky, ET, Cloak and Dagger (old Disney), The Princess Bride, (Amazing Grace) Wilberforce, Avalon, Chariots of Fire, Apollo 13, Signs (scary), Babe, 7 Brides for 7 Brothers (the boys actually liked this one A LOT), Unsinkable Molly Brown, Hunt for Red October ….Charlie Chaplin movies. Some editing needed and probably not for little guys (depending on your convictions and we watched with them to talk through some of the heavy elements…but really really good discussions).
Where the Red Fern Grows, Star Wars, The old Popeye cartoons (my guys LOVE these!), Old Tin Tin shows, Charlotte’s Web, The Incredible Journey, many great ones already listed.
Follow Me Boys is great. Also the Ransom of Red Chief if funny and endearing.
The Music Man, all the Herbie movies, John Wayne movies (not all), Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang…..so many of the older movies. Good clean fun!
how about THE INDIAN IN THE CUPBOARD. MATILDA,
